Barbara Morris is a Bay Area-based artist whose work has been displayed widely in Northern California, including at the de Young Museum, Berkeley Art Museum, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, Crocker Art Museum, SFMOMA Artists Gallery, San Francisco Art Commission Gallery, Pro Arts, Richmond Art Center, Berkeley Art Center, Sandra Lee Gallery, Joyce Gordon Gallery, Mona Lease Gallery, Center for the Visual Arts, Gallery Route One, Marin Civic Center, Marin Art and Garden Center, Falkirk Cultural Center, !hey! gallery, 4 Walls Gallery, and Arts Council of San Mateo County; also, at WORKS/San Jose; Matrix Gallery in Sacramento, Accurate Art Gallery. Her work was included in the Reader’s Digest Artist’s at Giverny Finalists’ exhibition in New York State. Other awards include a Regents’ Scholarship to U.C. Berkeley, the Maybelle Toombs Prize in Art, also received at U.C. Berkeley, Awards of Excellence at California State Fair (twice) and Napa Spring Fair, numerous honorable mention and merit awards. She was the recipient in 2014 of a Quick Grant award from the Center for Cultural Innovation.
Morris writes art criticism for Artillery magazine, she was a regular contributor to art ltd. for 7 years, and she was a contributing editor for Artweek magazine for over 10 years; her writing has also been published in Squarecylinder, Art Practical, Artist’s Dialogue and Stretcher.org. Morris has also authored catalog essays for numerous artist's exhibitions. She has taught painting and drawing to both children and adults, and has given talks on her work in gallery and college settings, as well as organizing and participating on a panel on contemporary photography at ArtPad SF, and speaking on an artists’ panel at the Women’s Caucus for Art National Conference.
In 2020, Morris launched a new art writing blog, Articultures.com.
